What are the requirements for fire-fighting equipment for hot work posing a fire hazard at a temporary work site?
There are actually two different requirements specified in safety rule 8.

  • The minimum requirement is that there be a hose with water pressure. The hose must be at least 19 mm and have a pressurised nozzle.
  • If no hose is available, there must be a minimum of 2x6 kg powder extinguishers with a minimum efficiency class of 34A 233BC.
    For roofs/waterproofing/balconies:
  • The minimum requirement is that there be a hose of at least 19 mm with water pressure and 2x6 kg powder extinguishers with a minimum rating of 34A 233BC.
  • If no hose with water is available, there must be at least 3x6 kg powder extinguishers with a minimum rating of 34A 233BC.

Can you replace the powder extinguisher with another fire extinguisher?
No, you cannot. However, it is an excellent idea to supplement the powder extinguishers, for example, with a carbon dioxide extinguisher. The requirements that are listed in safety rule 8 always define the minimum requirements.

Do any foam extinguishers satisfy the requirements for hot work posing a fire hazard at a temporary work site?
No, there are no foam extinguishers that satisfy the requirements. You can always have additional extinguishers, for example, foam, in addition to what is required according to the safety rules. You can also replace the powder extinguishers with a hose with water according to safety rule 8.
