Client

What is meant by a client?
A client is a person who intends to perform or allow hot work to be performed at a temporary work site.

What are my responsibilities as a client?
You have a responsibility as a client when you allow hot work to be performed. You are responsible for ensuring that the work is performed in a fire-safe manner. The first step you must take is to appoint a permit issuer and create an organisation for the work, the so-called “hot work team”. Everyone in the hot work team must have a Heta Arbeten® certificate or equivalent.

What is required to perform hot work posing a fire hazard?
The correct knowledge and a valid certificate are required to perform hot work posing a fire hazard at a temporary work site, to act as a fire-watcher, or to issue permits for such work. This means that you must have undergone a one-day training course where you are informed, among other things, about the safety rules for hot work posing a fire hazard at a temporary work site. Authorisation training with any of the Fire Protection Association’s quality-reviewed organisers will result in a Heta Arbeten® certificate. The certificate meets the requirements of the Swedish Insurance Contracts Act and shows that you have the right knowledge and authorisation to carry out the hot work in a fire-safe way.

Which persons are included in the hot work team?
Before hot work posing a fire hazard is performed at all, there must be a fire safety organisation in place consisting of:

  • the permit issuer
  • the fire-watcher
  • the hot work operative.

Within the framework of this organisation, a permit must be issued by the permit issuer. Before you as a hot work operative are allowed to perform hot work posing a fire hazard, you must have a permit. Swedish insurance companies require that everyone in the team have the correct knowledge and certification.

Who appoints a permit issuer?
According to the safety rules for hot work posing a fire hazard at a temporary work site, the work client has the duty of appointing a permit issuer.

Who can be a permit issuer?
The permit issuer needs to have the correct authorisation and a valid certificate, i.e. to have completed Heta Arbeten® training. The permit issuer must be appointed in writing. In addition, experience of practical work with fire protection is required.

What is included in the Heta Arbeten® injury and damage prevention concept?
The Heta Arbeten® injury and damage prevention concept is the largest injury and damage prevention measure against fire that has been carried out in Sweden in the last 30 years. The Swedish Fire Protection Association’s concept saves lives, reduces the number of injuries and damage and saves money. The concept consists first and foremost of 14 safety rules that were drawn up in cooperation with the insurance companies. It also includes training and training material, guidelines and checklists, administrative IT systems for organisers and instructors, a permit list for risk assessment and an app for hot work operatives with a digital version of the permit list.

Is it possible to add the Heta Arbeten® certificate to the ID06 Skills Database?
Yes, everyone who has a Heta Arbeten® certificate has the option to register their certificate free of charge in the ID06 Skills Database. This is done either at the time of training or afterwards in the Heta Arbeten® app (which can be downloaded by navigating to app.hetaarbeten.se in your web browser).
